2022 Baldrige Fall Conference: "Lighting the Way to Excellence"
During last month's 2022 Baldrige Conference, CMTC Quality Practice Lead Eliot Dratch (pictured above) and California Council for Excellence Board Chair Denise Shields delivered a presentation entitled, "Providing High-Quality Jobs to Attract High-Quality Workers: The Baldrige Connection." Eliot and Denise discussed how companies should be looking at themselves more critically to make sure their job offerings are of the highest quality possible. In addition, Eliot and Denise gave an overview of the recently released "Job Quality Toolkit" that is intended to help organizations of all kinds improve their ability to recruit and retain great workers. The Job Quality Toolkit was developed by the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program and the U.S. Department of Commerce — in partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor and around 60 industry representatives. The entire conference was a great success, with 230 people in attendance from all sectors including the newest Baldrige Category: Communities.
CMTC Spotlight
CMTC recently engaged with Kayla’s Cake, a retail and wholesale bakery, to help the company prepare for their upcoming Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) audit. CMTC provided 24 hours of food safety consultation that helped Kayla’s Cake to familiarize themselves with and get ready for the audit process. With CMTC's support, the audit process proved to be an educational and empowering experience for Kayla’s Cake employees, giving them more knowledge and confidence to successfully do their jobs. In addition, Kayla’s Cake leadership now also has the ability to approach larger potential wholesale clients who require a GMP audit in order to do business, giving them the “foot in the door” that they needed. Following the consulting provided by CMTC and the GMP audit, Kayla’s Cake anticipates an estimated $120,000 in new sales. Additionally, the company has been able to hire three new bakers to meet the needs of new wholesale clients, including multiple five-star resorts. As both Kayla’s Cake and their wholesale client base grow, company leadership believes they will eventually need to hire additional staff members to meet product demands. The company credits CMTC with motivating them to pursue the GMP audit to help improve and grow their business.
