Food Safety Certification for Specialty Crops Program
Did your specialty crop operation recently incur on-farm food safety program expenses related to obtaining or renewing a food safety certification in calendar years 2022 or 2023? You may be eligible for financial assistance through USDA’s Food Safety Certification for Specialty Crops Program (FSCSC). USDA’s Farm Service Agency will accept FSCSC applications for program year 2022 from June 27, 2022 through January 31, 2023. Applications for program year 2023 will be announced at a later date. CMTC recently provided Lean Manufacturing and Leadership Training to a clean beauty product manufacturer, Innovative Cosmetic Labs (ICL), to help the company improve its operations and reduce costs. CMTC worked with ICL employees to develop skills for a continuous improvement culture throughout the organization and to train key personnel on Lean principles and tools to help them understand and implement sustainable improvements. CMTC provided consulting, technical support, and account management services both virtually and on site at Innovative Cosmetic Labs’ Chatsworth facility. Key outcomes included: identification of areas for improvement, recommendations on layout and storage, and training and empowering of staff. Following the training and consulting provided by CMTC, ICL reported $100,000 in new sales generated, as well as cost reductions of $6,000. Company leaders anticipate that the Lean Manufacturing and Leadership Training will allow ICL to add two new jobs and retain 12 employees over the next 12 months.
